Ultralight and High Performance Racing Bicycle Components Thanks to Metal Binder Jetting

Racing bikes must meet stringent criteria, including lightweight frames, high aerodynamic performance, specific geometry, and high customization. However, these factors make racing bicycles very difficult, length, and expensive to produce, especially with traditional manufacturing methods such as CNC, investment casting, and metal injection molding (MIM). Stelbel, a leading manufacturer of high-end racing bicycles, components and accessories, collaborated with Tamau Italia, which specializes in 3D printing high-performance metal parts, to overcome the challenges of traditional production methods for its cycling products using the Desktop Metal Shop System binder jetting platform. Not only did metal binder jetting improve the performance and reduce the weight of the parts, it also significantly reduced the production time and cost of the parts compared to CNC.
